The sun is back! And with it, the risk of sunburn. Although you can take precautions, sometimes it's not enough. So when you get burnt, here are some tips and remedies that can help.
Immediately after getting burnt apply a cool compress and for an added benefit you can soak the compress in an herbal tincture, (1 part tincture to 10 parts sterile water). Refresh the compress as soon as it warms up against the sunburnt skin.
Hypericum Tincture: Relieves pain of sunburn and unbroken blisters.
Calendula Tincture: Helps prevent infection and blisters.
Urtica Urens Tincture: Soothes the sting of the burn.
Arnica: Sometimes there is an element of shock with sunburn when it covers a large area. It's often helpful to take one dose of Arnica before starting any of the other more specific remedies.
Cantharis: This remedy covers painful burning with an itching and raw sensation. The burn feels better from cold applications and the person doesn't want to remove the cold pack, even for an instant. If Cantharis is taken immediately, it can prevent blistering.
Causticum: This burn has blisters that ooze (think chemical burns). It can also be used for old burns that do not get well and for ill effects from burns.
Urtica Urens: This burn is intense with stinging pain and often is very itchy. The burn feels worse from cold water, heat, exercise and after sleeping.
Take one pellet every 2-4 hours, as needed, up to 4 times a day. As soon as you start to see/feel improvement, stop taking the remedy.
As always, you should seek the advice of a registered Homeopath before treatment.
