As careful as we can be about the food we eat, sometimes we eat something bad without even knowing it. Instead of suffering through the pain, vomiting and diarrhea, there are a number of remedies that can help you through.
The top remedy for food poisoning is Arsenicum Album. There will be vomiting and diarrhea and the person can not bear the sight of food. Their abdominal pains will burning and it can burn when it comes out. They will be restless, anxious, very chilly and will be thirsty but can only take small sips of water.
Ipecac is good for persistent vomiting and nausea that is NOT relieved by vomiting. There will be pain in the abdomen that radiates to all sides. The stomach will be swollen and there will be plenty of flatulence with painful diarrhea. There is no thirst.
Veratrum Album is a great alternative if Arsenicum Album doesn't help. The skin will be pale and often feel clammy. The person needing this is thirsty for cold water but it is often thrown up again soon after it's been drunk. Motion makes this person feel worse so they want to lay still.
Bryonia is useful for the person that feels irritable and wants to be left alone. The vomiting and diarrhea is always worse with the slightest motion so they want to lay perfectly still. They will also feel warm.
Although these 4 remedies are helpful, there are many more that could prove useful. It is always wise to seek the advice, (15 minute acute consult on the phone or in person), of a licensed homeopath to help you choose the appropriate remedy, potency and frequency of doses.
