In a randomized double blind trial, (Dorfman P, Lassere NM, Tetau M, Homoeopathic Medicines in Pregnancy and Labor, Cahiers de Biotherapie,94, April 1987, 77-81), 93 women were given either a homeopathic complex or a placebo to determine the effect of homeopathic remedies on labour and delivery as well as the rate of complications in child birth. The remedy or placebo was given for the last month of pregnancy.
The remedy was found to shorten labours from an average of 8.5 hours in the placebo group, to 5.1 hours in the remedy group. It also found that the rate of complications dropped rom 40% in the placebo group, to 11.3% in the remedy group.
Although the remedy complex is proven to work well and can be a simple, safe and viable option for those that are new to homeopathy, single remedies selected to match the mothers presenting symptoms during child birth give the best results.
In an ideal world, the mothers support person will have a good understanding of homeopathy and be able to administer the appropriate remedies at the appropriate times.
