Homeopathy is a Regulated Health Profession

In 1869, Ontario created the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO) and it included Homeopaths!

What happened between then and now that made the general public question the validity or efficacy of homeopathic treatment?

Here are a couple of common questions answered for you.

What does it mean to be a Regulated Health Profession?

It means the government went through a lengthy process of learning and understanding a health profession, what it does and how it works. After thoroughly investigating Homeopathy, the government chose to add it to the list of Regulated Health Professions in Ontario alongside the following professions:

Audiologists

Chiropodists

Chiropractors

Dental Hygienists

Dentists

Denturists

Dieticians

Kinesiologists

Massage Therapists

Medical Lab Techs

Medical Radiation Techs and Sonographers

Midwives

Naturopaths

Nurses

Occupational Therapists

Opticians

Optometrists

Pharmacists

Pharmacy Techs

Physicians

Physiotherapists

Podiatrists

Psychologists

Psychotherapists

Respiratory Therapists

Speech-Language Pathologists

TCM and Acupuncturists

Requirements to become a Homeopath:

Homeopaths in Ontario must graduate from either Canadian College of Homeopathic Medicine or Ontario College of Homeopathic Medicine. There can be exceptions made for out of province education but they are reviewed on a case by case basis must prove equivalent education.

Homeopaths must then become licensed to practice and belong to a governing body called the College of Homeopaths of Ontario. This requires multiple assessments which include competencies, knowledge, skills, experience, judgement and more. As well as courses in jurisprudence, First Aid and Healthcare CPR.

As you can see, the process to becoming a regulated health professional in Ontario is rigorous and you must fulfill many required qualifications. With Homeopathy being a regulated health profession, again I ask, why is the validity and efficacy of Homeopathy still questioned?
